Michael J. Schellhous, Esq. is Counsel at Nixon Gwilt Law. As a healthcare innovation attorney, Michael is passionate about the intersection of science, technology, and healthcare delivery. His practice specializes in the FDA regulation of medical devices, software as a medical device (SaMD), digital therapeutics (DTx), and emerging technologies; virtual care management; digital health business models; telemedicine; provider reimbursement; and fraud, waste, and abuse.
With a keen eye towards detail, Michael excels at understanding the nuanced complexities of healthcare innovation and assisting his clients in finding the pathway that’s right for them. Michael is dedicated to helping clients develop a cohesive legal approach that incorporates the client’s regulatory pathway with their overall business model and long-term goals to lay the foundation for long-term success.
Michael graduated Summa Cum Laude from the leading Health Law program in the country at Saint Louis University School of Law, where he received concentrations in Health Law and Intellectual Property Law. During his time in law school, Michael served on the Saint Louis University Journal of Health Law and Policy, as a student representative of the University’s Health Law Association, as a teaching assistant for legal research and writing, as a faculty fellow for legal research, and was published for his student comment on improving access to biosimilar drugs.
Prior to law school, Michael earned his bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Brigham Young University and worked for several years as a regulatory specialist for clinical trial design and implementation at a contract research organization within the pharmaceutical industry.
Outside of work, Michael can be found reading his favorite sci-fi or fantasy novels, playing games with his family, or relaxing outside with his two children. Michael and his wife, Nicole, currently live in Gilbert, Arizona.
